If These Walls of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Could Talk

We are the walls, in The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

We hold the spirits and hear the whispers, of the bones, of the silent anonymous souls who gave up their names, their individual mark for the ideals of humanity. All these bones speak one language. The original language. The heart’s language.

Their souls are the fossils of war. Their bones are the splinters of the clashing of opposing beliefs. These nameless faceless souls and their bones are huddling here together in unity, in hope, under the one name, the name of UNKNOWN. Your own hearts can hear their whispers if you are still.

If you are quiet. Are you listening?

These bones were at the frontline of all that you believe: loyalty, freedom, autonomy, spiritual freedom and the safety of living fully in community. Are you quiet enough to hear your own living bones whispering this same language of the heart, of character, of hope?

Or are you just too busy listening to the outside noise; the non-stop cachophany of how different and special you are, that you can justify and rationalize your numbing hatred or apathy? That nothing really matters?

Pause, if you can. Honor the hope of these forgotten bones. On this day that commemorates their memory, the whispers of the unknown soldier, their bones remind you that you are all very much the same at the core in love, laughter, and the hope of exuding your gifts.

Yes, that is the common thread of conversation of these unknown bones. We hear of hope. The bones speak of hope for the future. They took hope to the frontline. Their bones are not just remnants of patriotism or bravery. They are not just the bones of unsung heroes. They are not just sacrifices for the greater good. They hold neither your sympathy nor your altruism.

What they do hold is your high hopes.

On this day, in the quiet and the stillness, let the UNKNOWN be known to you today. Hear the whispers of their bones echo and bounce the language of the heart, upon your own bones, just like these walls that hold the condensed essences of the Unknown Soldiers. Dignify these unknown soldiers. Catapult their sense of hope.

Live going forward knowing you keep alive the whispers of character. Carry forward hope for all the Unknowns.
